What is an Educational psychologist?
An Educational Psychologist:
- Is fully trained and qualified in
understanding the intellectual, social, emotional and behavioural
development of children and adults.
- Has undertaken specialist postgraduate
training in educational psychology and are usually qualified and
experienced teachers.
- Is trained in a variety of assessment
techniques including psychometric tests, observation, interviewing,
dynamic assessment and consultation.
- Can undertake research and offer training
to teachers and other professionals on all areas of intellectual,
social and emotional development
The aim of an Educational Assessment The main
aim of assessment is to identify an individual’s strengths
and weaknesses with regard to their intellectual, social and emotional
development and to offer verbal and written advice for individuals,
parents, educational institutions and other professionals.
Who can seek an Assessment by an Educational Psychologist?
There is no age restriction, although assessments usually occur
for children of school-age.
